FUFA Fines and Deducts Points From Buhimba United Saints
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has sanctioned Buhimba United Saints following the club’s failure to honour their Uganda Premier League fixture against NEC FC.
Buhimba United Saints have been fined UGX 3 million and further deducted three points and three goals.
During Matchday 28 of the Uganda Premier League on May 13, referee Solomon Jjumba and the other match officials, alongside NEC FC, arrived at the stadium ready for the fixture. However, Buhimba United Saints failed to turn up for the encounter.
The sanction means the already relegated Buhimba United Saints now remain bottom of the table with 12 points ahead of their final league game of the season against URA FC in Hoima.
Recently, former Buhimba head coach Robert Mukasa opened up about the financial struggles affecting the club.
“Some players would tell me they did not even have transport money or money to leave at home for their families, and I would provide at least 20,000 shillings so they could come for training or games,” Mukasa revealed.
“I was trying my best so that the league concludes and we wait for the new management and hear their ambitions. But these players also deserve to receive at least some salary because financially they are struggling,” he added.
“That is the biggest challenge. You cannot manage a team where you are injecting your own money as a coach and still the players no longer listen to you. That is completely wrong in football management.”
Reports had earlier indicated that Buhimba players arrived late for their previous home match against Express FC, which ended in a 2-0 defeat, after threatening not to play because of unpaid salaries.
It is believed the players later refused to travel to Kampala for the NEC FC fixture as frustrations over unpaid wages escalated further.
