KCCA’s Gamble: Keep Mayanja or Cash In Now?

Uganda Premier League giants KCCA FC risk losing midfielder Saidi Mayanja on a free transfer after reportedly rejecting interest from Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi.

Mayanja has one year remaining on his contract at Lugogo, and unless he signs a new deal or is sold during the current transfer window, he could leave the club for free at the end of the 2026/27 season.

According to reports, Dinamo Tbilisi tabled an offer worth USD 25,000 through the player’s representatives, but KCCA FC rejected the proposal, demanding a higher transfer fee for the highly-rated midfielder.

Mayanja enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign, scoring five goals and providing five assists.

The intelligent midfielder was one of KCCA’s most consistent performers, featuring in 27 of the club’s 30 league matches.

With Joel Sserunjogi already having departed for rivals Vipers SC as a free agent, KCCA will be keen to avoid a similar situation with Mayanja.

However, the club now faces a difficult decision: cash in on the midfielder this transfer window or retain him for another season and risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

The final decision rests with KCCA’s hierarchy, who must weigh the player’s sporting value against the financial implications of keeping him for the final year of his contract.

Meanwhile, promising youngster Brian Ijara has also left the club for a move to Europe, with an official announcement expected soon.

With both Sserunjogi and Ijara already out of Lugogo, KCCA’s management may consider securing Mayanja’s long-term future as a priority as they continue to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.

The Kasasiro Boys finished second in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League and were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, ending the campaign without a trophy.
