Kigezi HomeBoyz Set to Appoint Experienced Coach

Newly promoted Uganda Premier League side Kigezi HomeBoyz are set to appoint experienced tactician Kefa Kisala as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

According to reliable sources, Kigezi HomeBoyz and Kisala have already opened discussions over a potential move that would see the CAF A licensed coach take charge of the club in their maiden Uganda Premier League campaign.

The Gorillas have already secured promotion to the top flight and will play their final FUFA Big League match this weekend before turning their attention to preparations for next season.

The development comes after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) made it mandatory for all Uganda Premier League clubs to have head coaches who possess a CAF A coaching licence, a requirement that Kisala meets.

Current Kigezi HomeBoyz head coach Sadick Ssempigi holds a CAF B licence and therefore does not meet the new requirement for a top-flight head coach.

It remains unclear whether the club will retain Ssempigi in another role should Kisala be appointed.

Kisala is one of Uganda’s most experienced coaches, having previously managed KCCA FC, URA FC, Express FC, BUL FC, UPDF FC and Wakiso Giants, among other clubs.

During his playing career, Kisala featured as a left winger for the Uganda Cranes and enjoyed successful spells with both Express FC and KCCA FC.

Kigezi HomeBoyz will be hoping Kisala’s vast experience can help them establish themselves in the Uganda Premier League following their historic promotion.

The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, with the fixtures expected to be released a month earlier.
