UEFA Conference League Club Join Race for Uganda Cranes Defender

Austrian giants Austria Wien have reportedly entered the race to sign Uganda Cranes and Slovan Liberec left-back Aziz Kayondo.

According to reliable sources, Austria Wien, who have qualified for the UEFA Conference League play-offs for the upcoming season, have submitted an offer to Slovan Liberec in a bid to secure the services of the Ugandan defender.

The development comes just days after Russian side Spartak Moscow reportedly submitted a formal bid worth USD 1.8 million for Kayondo. However, the offer was rejected by the Czech club.

Kayondo enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Slovan Liberec, featuring in 27 league matches. The left-back started 25 of those games and averaged 74 minutes per appearance, underlining his importance to the team.

Slovan Liberec are believed to value the former Vipers SC defender at around USD 3 million, and reports suggest Austria Wien’s proposal could be closer to the club’s valuation than Spartak Moscow’s previous offer.

A move to Austria Wien would present another major step in Kayondo’s career and potentially offer him the opportunity to feature in European competition.

Should Austria Wien successfully navigate the UEFA Conference League play-offs, Kayondo could come up against some of Europe’s notable clubs, depending on the competition’s final line-up for the 2026-27 season.

The 23-year-old has continued to enhance his reputation both at club level and with the Uganda Cranes, attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

Austria Wien are one of the most successful clubs in Austrian football history, having won more than 50 major trophies and boasting a rich tradition in domestic and European competitions.
