Uganda Cup: Kiggundu Stars as Vipers Hold Kitara in Semi-final First Leg

Sunday, May 3
Kitara 0-0 Vipers

Vipers SC goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu delivered a man-of-the-match performance as the Venoms played out a goalless draw against Kitara FC in the first leg of the Uganda Cup semi-finals.

In a physical contest played in Butema, Hoima, Kiggundu produced six outstanding saves to help Vipers avoid defeat and secure a valuable result away from home.

Inside the opening 10 minutes, Kiggundu was called into action, making a save following a misjudged cross inside the box.

At the other end, Vipers’ Glodi Beyuku forced Kitara goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige into a sharp save moments later.

In the 35th minute, Kiggundu made two crucial saves in quick succession, denying Patrick Kaddu and Yunus Sibira to keep the hosts at bay.

Before halftime, Kitara captain Jasper Aheebwa was fortunate to escape a red card after a dangerous challenge on Milton Karisa, receiving only a yellow card.

Karisa was immediately substituted and replaced by Marvin Youngman as both teams went into the break goalless.

In the second half, Kiggundu continued his heroics, making three more important saves to deny Living Kabon on multiple occasions as the match ended without a goal.

Vipers’ best opportunity came when substitute Yunus Sentamu forced Kibirige into a save in the second half, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

The tie will now be decided in the second leg at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where both teams will battle for a place in the final.

In the other semi-final, SC Villa will visit URA FC on Monday, May 4, for the first leg.
