URA Part Ways with Head Coach Hussein Mbalangu

Uganda Premier League side URA FC have parted ways with head coach Hussein Mbalangu, Sports Light Uganda understands.

According to reliable sources, the Tax Collectors decided to end Mbalangu’s tenure following a series of underwhelming performances during the second half of the 2025-26 season.

Mbalangu leaves the club after just six months in charge, having been appointed in December 2025 to replace Alex Isabirye.

The outspoken tactician struggled to achieve consistency in results, with URA failing to win two consecutive league matches during his tenure.

The Tax Collectors eventually finished 11th in the Uganda Premier League standings with 31 points.

Sources indicate that Mbalangu’s hopes of retaining his position largely depended on winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup. However, URA’s campaign came to an end after a semi-final defeat to SC Villa.

Express FC head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera is reportedly the leading candidate to replace Mbalangu at the Nakawa-based club.

Reports further suggest that a major squad overhaul is expected at URA as the club seeks to rebuild and assemble a more competitive team ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Mbalangu’s departure continues a busy period of managerial changes across Ugandan football. Earlier on Sunday, Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC confirmed the departure of head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert following the expiry of his contract.

Meanwhile, Lugazi FC also announced the exits of head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa and his assistant Robert Sekweyama as preparations for the new season gather pace.

An official statement from URA FC is expected in the coming days.
