VIDEO: Government Grants Kitara Permission to Host CAF Confederation Cup Matches at Hoima City Stadium

The Government of Uganda has granted Kitara FC permission to host their CAF Confederation Cup matches at Hoima City Stadium, the club has confirmed.

The development was announced by club president Deo Kasozi as the Royals prepare for a return to continental football.

Kasozi revealed that the approval allows the club to use Hoima City Stadium as its home venue for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

He also revealed that the Government of Uganda has granted the club permission to use Hoima City Stadium as their home venue for the continental competition.

Kitara secured qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after defeating SC Villa 2-1 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final. The triumph earned the club its second Uganda Cup title and a place on the continental stage.

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang revealed that the government had decided to allow Kitara FC to host their CAF Confederation Cup matches at Hoima City Stadium despite concerns arising from previous incidents at the venue.

“The last time you played at Hoima City Stadium, there were issues regarding crowd behaviour. However, it would be unfortunate for a club representing Uganda on the continental stage to host its matches away from home,” Ogwang said.

“On behalf of the Government of Uganda, I was given the authority to close the stadium, but I have instead granted Kitara FC permission to host their CAF Confederation Cup home matches at Hoima City Stadium.”

“I will personally ensure that all the necessary arrangements are handled, including allowing up to 17,000 fans into the stadium.”

Kitara FC president Deo Kasozi expressed gratitude to the government for granting the club the opportunity to play its continental matches in Hoima.

“I would like to thank His Excellency the President of Uganda and the Government of Uganda for granting us the opportunity to host our CAF Confederation Cup matches at Hoima City Stadium,” Kasozi said.

“This is a major milestone for Kitara Football Club. It will also serve as a valuable rehearsal for AFCON 2027, and we are ready to host more matches here in the future.”

The Hoima-based side will now look forward to representing Uganda in Africa’s second-tier club competition, with Hoima City Stadium set to serve as their home venue for the campaign.
