VIDEO: Okello’s Young Africans Teammate Zouzoua Suffers Horrific Ankle Injury in Title-Winning Match

Young Africans midfielder Pacome Zouzoua suffered a horrific ankle injury during his side’s 3-0 victory over JKT Tanzania on the final day of the NBC Premier League season.

The Ivorian midfielder sustained the injury late in the first half after a challenge from JKT Tanzania defender Hassan Wahabi. While attempting to stop Zouzoua, Wahabi caught the midfielder with a dangerous tackle, leaving him with a serious-looking ankle injury.

Replays of the incident showed Zouzoua’s right ankle suffering a severe dislocation, an injury that drew comparisons to the one Germany international Jamal Musiala sustained during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following a collision with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Although the full extent of Zouzoua’s injury is yet to be confirmed by the club, such injuries are often associated with significant ligament damage and, in some cases, a fractured fibula.

Recovery from such injuries can typically take between four and six months, depending on the severity.

Following the incident, referee issued Hassan Wahabi a straight red card, while the injured Zouzoua was replaced by Mohamed Damaro.

Despite the setback, Young Africans went on to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory to retain the NBC Premier League title, finishing the season on 75 points, two ahead of rivals Simba SC.

The triumph marked Young Africans’ fifth consecutive league title and the 27th in the club’s history. It was also Ugandan international Allan Okello’s first league title since joining the Tanzanian giants at the start of 2026.

Okello concluded an impressive debut campaign with 14 league goals, finishing third in the Golden Boot race behind Azam FC’s Salum Toto (15) and Singida Black Stars striker Jonathan Mosi, who topped the scoring charts with 17 goals.

Both Young Africans and Simba SC have qualified to represent Tanzania in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
