Uganda Rugby Fraternity Mourns Former Player Adnan Kawuma

The Uganda rugby fraternity is mourning the passing of former Ugandan rugby player Adnan Kawuma, who died over the weekend.

Kawuma’s death comes just days after the tragic passing of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, who reportedly lost his life following an incident of mob justice. Uganda Police have since arrested more than 10 suspects in connection with the case.

During his rugby career, Kawuma achieved notable success. In July 2016, he won the Rugby Division I National Championship in the United States with Mystic River Rugby Club.

Following news of his passing, the Uganda Rugby Union released a statement expressing its condolences.

“Uganda Rugby is saddened to announce the passing of Adnan Kawuma.

Our deepest condolences go to his family, teammates, and friends.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Kawuma was also remembered by the Vienna College Alumni community, which reflected on his inspiring journey and achievements.

“In 2016, Adnan Kawuma’s story was told through ‘From Kampala to Boston: A Story of a Champion.’

Today, we remember the athlete, alumnus, and inspiration behind that journey.

Rest in peace, Adnan.”

Meanwhile, Walukuba Barbarians supporters also paid tribute to the former rugby star.

“It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the passing of Adnan Kawuma.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we all find strength in faith during this difficult time.”

Kawuma’s passing is a significant loss to Ugandan rugby, with many remembering him for his contribution to the sport and the inspiration he provided to aspiring players both in Uganda and abroad.
