JUST IN: Five Additional Suspects Arrested as Investigations into Sydney Gongodyo’s Death Intensify

Uganda Police have arrested five additional suspects in connection with the death of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Black Pirates Rugby Club player Sydney Gongodyo, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to eight.

Gongodyo died following an incident on June 5, 2026, in what police are investigating as an alleged mob attack.

In an earlier update, police had confirmed the arrest of three suspects. Authorities have now announced the arrest of five more individuals as investigations continue.

The suspects currently in custody have been identified as:

  • Ssebagala Noordin
  • Ayebazibwe Roden
  • Namukose Juliet
  • Mondoni Elly
  • Twinomujuni Herbert
  • Katsigazi Perigrino
  • Tayebwa Darlious
  • Tugume Hannington

According to police, efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.

The death of Gongodyo has sent shockwaves across Uganda’s sporting fraternity, with tributes continuing to pour in from teammates, clubs, sports administrators, and fans.

Police have condemned acts of mob justice and reiterated their call for members of the public to report suspected criminal activity to law enforcement authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Gongodyo’s death remain ongoing.
